The client came to us after four unsuccessful attempts at manufacturing the component. Although molds produced by our competitors made functional products, the quality of these was low due to a recurring problem with the product parting line.
While in most products parting line visibility is only a matter of aesthetics, here it also had an impact on product functionality. A noticeable, unsmooth parting line could injure someone using the machine.
The requirement was to create molds that would support production of millions of product units, but the material used in the final product – a special mix with added ceramic balls — posed an additional challenge. The ceramic balls made programing the injection machine very difficult and wore down the molds faster than expected.
It was necessary for the molds both to be very precise and to support mass-production, so we built a massive heavy steel mold with the endurance not to wear down quickly. Technology that guaranteed precise results was deployed, and the most advanced machinery available on the market was used.
Although Plastomold’s price quote was relatively higher than what the client previously paid, the client put their trust in us and in received a mold that perfectly answered their needs. To date, millions of parts have been manufactured.
