The challenge
The product consisted of a test tube, a cap and an internal dip slide. Its geometry required heat welding and assembly of the slide to the cap. Annual volumes were measured in millions, with demanding requirements for cleanliness and sealing.
Plastomold's solution:
We built durable molds from high-grade hardened steels and used steel inserts produced by 3D printing to provide uniform cooling. We developed an assembly machine with two six-axis robots to remove parts from the injection molding machines, perform heat welding, assemble the cap and carry out camera-based quality inspection. Installed in a controlled clean environment, the line manufactured, assembled and inspected millions of products.
